Toll Gavel United Church

WORSHIP AT TOLL GAVEL
Services are held each Sunday at 10.30am and 6.30pm. The hymn books in regular use are Hymns & Psalms and Junior Praise and occasionally Power Praise. Sometimes in the evening we use Rejoice & Sing, the URC book. We have a Music Group which contributes to worship from time to time and on certain occasions, such as the Festivals, a larger choir is often brought together. We use a printed Order of Service for morning worship which also includes a comprehensive list of notices including the week's forthcoming events. Cassette recordings are made each Sunday morning and are available on request to those unable to join us in church. The Sunday Club is for children of all ages and meets every Sunday morning. They are usually in church for the first part of the service before going to their own groups. There are creche facilities which members and visitors are encouraged to use. Tea and coffee are normally served at the end of the morning service and you are warmly invited to share in this short but valuable time of friendship and fellowship. Once a quarter the evening service is given over to a particular style of worship, be it Taize, Iona or Healing and Wholeness.

All-age Family services are normally held on the 3rd Sunday of each month and these sometimes take the form of Parade Services in which the various Uniformed Organisations join in worship. Communion Services are held regularly at both morning and evening. The new Methodist Worship Book gives wide scope for a variety of liturgy. We are also conscious of the URC tradition and some services adopt their practice for the distribution of the elements. All who love the Lord Jesus Christ are invited to share in the celebration of Holy Communion. There is also a mid-week Communion Service once a month on a Wednesday morning. After Communion Services there is a retiring collection for the Benevolent Fund. Baptisms and Weddings are arranged individually with the Minister. Baptisms are often incorporated into Family Services. Ecumenical relations in the town are good and united services are held at various times such as the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Maundy Thursday and Christmas. We are of course part of the Beverley Circuit, which consists of six churches, and occasionally we join for worship with other churches, either at Toll Gavel or elsewhere.
