Northern Chamber Orchestra
Nicholas Ward, director. Mark Simpson, clarinet.
Toll Gavel United Church Thursday 25th March 2010 7.30pm.
The Northern Chamber Orchestra return to Beverley with young clarinettist, Mark Simpson, the only person ever to have won BBC Young Musician of the Year and the BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year. Mark is the soloist in Finzi’s ‘Clarinet Concerto’ , the composer’s most widely performed and recorded orchestral work, which brings up images of the English countryside. Alongside this is Barber’s ‘Adagio for Strings’, which was made famous in the film ‘Platoon’, a wonderfully haunting piece of music. The concert is begun and finished with symphonies by Haydn and Mozart - all in all, a delightful and varied programme.
Tickets cost Adult £12, Concessions £10.
